NL Greenlabel: unique green designers!

Tuesday 07 June 2016

Nico Wissing and Lodewijk Hoekstra of NL Greenlabel have shown a great example of green craftsmanship! At the request of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, they developed the green business card of the corporate Netherlands: a Traveling Ecodome. Starting from Amsterdam, the Ecodome will begin a journey around the world with a new message: the Netherlands as a sustainable delta.

Greenery forms the basis for the Traveling Ecodome, with the unusual design, but most importantly the combination of the components being unique. It allows visitors to see and experience how greenery is an integral part of lifestyle and a healthy living environment. Science has shown that greenery has intrinsic value. In the pavilion, this added value for society is translated into solutions and design that amaze and inspire.

The steel construction of the imposing dome is decorated with leaf shapes covered with moss that can hold rainwater for a long time and capture particulate matter from the air. Solar panels ensure an energy-neutral dome. Technical innovations such as a special particulate matter capture technology, developed by ENS Technology in cooperation with Delft University of Technology, are implemented. With a capacity of 10,000 m³ per hour, this continuously purifies the air, so it is a wonderful and clean place to be. Wild flowers, fruit trees from Ebben Nurseries but also organic, blooming bulb plants demonstrate biodiversity. In the middle of the dome is a giant, orange “flower calyx” around ten metres tall, with a willow basket seat. A good place to have a conversation or to look around you. These are just a few examples of the unique interior and exterior of the Ecodome.

The exterior of the Traveling Ecodome consists of climate trees, native planting, CO₂-binding and water-permeable paving, biodiversity, edible plants, water storage and particulate matter capture by moss, solar panels for an energy neutral building and application of the latest innovation that turns rainwater into drinking water.

The interior of the Traveling Ecodome is a combination of landscape, people and innovation: clean air, stimulation of the senses, biodiversity, edible plants and Dutch Sustainable Design.
