Amelanchier canadensis 'Glennform'

Amelanchier canadensis 'Glennform'

Glennform Canadian serviceberry

synonym Amelanchier canadensis 'Rainbow Pillar'®

Description

Amelanchier canadensis 'Glennform' (Glennform Canadian serviceberry) is a selection from seedlings of the Amelanchier canadensis by Losely Nursery in Perry, Ohio. The Glennform seedling stands out with its dense, upright symmetrical crown and more narrow growth than other serviceberry shrubs. The Glennform Canadian serviceberry grows up to 6 metres tall and 3 metres wide with a finely branched, narrow vase-shaped crown. Its slender, upright shape makes this shrub perfect for landscape hedges.

Before the leaves start to sprout, the Amelanchier canadensis ‘Glennform’ blooms bountifully racemes of white flowers that hang over slightly. In the summer, the shrub bears red-violet to blue-black fruits that are edible. The leaves are relatively large and bud in a lovely bronze-red. In the summer, the leaves are green with a grey-green underside. Its autumn colours go from yellow to orange and deep red.

The Glennform Canadian serviceberry has a preference for a sunny environment and moist, humous, slightly acidic soil. It will tolerate a temporarily dry environment, as well as strong wind. That makes the selection perfect for use in containers and roof gardens. The Amelanchier canadensis ‘Glennform’ is not sensitive to rust or mildew.
