The district of Friedrichstadt is a popular area in the old city of Düsseldorf, where many of the original buildings are still intact. A high-quality residential construction project was completed in the centre of the district, with various courtyards featuring exclusive and unusual plants forming the design highlight. Despite the limited space for root growth and broad tree crowns, a sustainable planting design was achieved in cooperation with architects Mörsch and Würfel from Cologne. Multi-stem Gleditsia, Malus and Betula were among the trees planted. In addition, umbrella-shaped, chalk-tolerant Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Worplesdon’ with heights of four to five metres were planted at playgrounds. The result: an upgrade to the quality of life using lush and natural greenery in an inner-city environment.
