For the planting of the islands, a mix of native and exotic multi-stems was chosen, to create an impressive sight in all seasons and contribute to the ecological value and biodiversity. Among the native trees, the eight-metre-tall hornbeams create an unusual spectacle with the whimsical structure of the multiple stems. This species is a very important host plant for butterflies, the rare junebug, the hawfinch and the nuthatch. In the range of exotic trees, the red-leaved 'Royal Burgundy' ornamental cherry is a real eye catcher. This cultivar with violet leaves has a spectacular pink blossom in spring and complements the colour palette in autumn with a beautiful fiery red colour.
